Amethyst AUV saltwater test April 2019 at Pula, Croatia

We put the Amethyst in to the seawater first time ever at Pula bay, Croatia. Nice April day, cold wind, freezing water and two explorers trying to not get sick.))

Main task was to find out if all wires, battery packs and dry compartment are properly sealed and not gonna explode right away. Fortunetely, all went great.

Then we put our selves in to wet suits and step up in to the cold water to see how the Amethyst perform basic operations like steering for example.

Upss... First trouble... Drone has not best boyancy and tilted bit to the side.

Some tweaking with waights and foam brought better results.

Now prepare for basic dive. We use radio and basic python program on laptop computer ashore to controll the sub. My legs went ice cold so we switched places and guy who stearing sub from dry place became me then.

Yep... its going down... not so smooth for now yet, but it dive.

After some time at our ordinary apartment that we rented maintanance started. Seawater is realy agressive, so you should take care of metal parts to prevent corrosion.

Even people should lubricate them selve from cold seawater. My sister Nat using local home made rakia.

So test was sucess even it was simple one. We did not test authonomy functions and so on. That will follow next time on another beautiful place as this was. We had a good time during those days.
